CalorieApp ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices.
1. Information We Collect
- Meal photos: Photos you take or select are sent to OpenAI's API for nutritional analysis. Photos are not stored on our servers.
- Profile data: Age, height, weight, and fitness goal you enter during onboarding — stored locally on your device using SwiftData.
- Meal logs: Meal names, calorie counts, and macronutrient values — stored locally on your device.
- Anonymous identifier: A random anonymous ID generated by Firebase Authentication to sync your data across sessions. No email or name is collected.
- Health data (optional): If you connect Apple Health, we write meal nutrition data and read body weight. This data stays on your device and is governed by Apple's HealthKit privacy rules.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To analyze meal photos and estimate nutritional content using AI (OpenAI GPT-4o Vision).
- To calculate and personalize your daily calorie target.
- To display your meal history and weekly progress charts.
- To sync your nutrition data with Apple Health if you enable the integration.
3. Third-Party Services
- OpenAI: Meal photos and optional food name hints are sent to OpenAI's API for analysis. OpenAI's privacy policy applies: openai.com/privacy
- Firebase (Google): Used for anonymous authentication and optional cloud backup. Google's privacy policy applies: policies.google.com/privacy
- Apple Health: Data written to and read from Apple Health is governed by Apple's privacy policy: apple.com/legal/privacy
- RevenueCat / StoreKit: In-app purchase transactions are handled by Apple's StoreKit. No payment information is processed by us.
4. Data Storage and Security
All personal data (profile, meal logs) is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework.
Meal photos are transmitted to OpenAI for analysis and are not retained by us.
Anonymous session data may be stored in Firebase Firestore in an anonymized form.
We implement industry-standard measures to protect your data in transit (TLS encryption).
5. Data Retention
Local data remains on your device until you delete the app.
Anonymous Firebase data is retained as long as your anonymous account exists.
You can request deletion of any Firebase-stored data by contacting us.
6. Children's Privacy
CalorieApp is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
7. Your Rights
- You can delete all local data by removing the app from your device.
- You can disconnect Apple Health at any time via iOS Settings → Health → Apps.
- You can request deletion of any server-side data by contacting us at the email below.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the new policy.
